De City channel garden in het Groningse Stadskanaal is een echte plantentuin van 2,5 ha groot. De tuin is aangelegd door Lida en Bé Lourens en wordt sinds het overlijden van Bé Lourens door Lida alleen voortgezet en onderhouden. City channel garden vormt samen met nog drie lokale tuinen de tuingroep Westerwoldse Tuinen.
The City channel Garden in Stadskanaal (Groningen) is a true botanical garden of 2.5 hectares. The garden was built by Lida and Be Lourens and since the death of Be Lourens only continued and maintained by Lida. City channel garden together with three local gardens is the garden group Westerwoldse Gardens.
Beautiful snowdrops (Galanthus)
Vrijwel elke stukje aarde van de tuin wordt in beslag genomen door de grote collectie planten die het echtpaar in de loop der jaren heeft weten te verzamelen. In het vroege voorjaar is er al een bloemenpracht van bolbloemen te bewonderen, iets waar de tuin veel bekendheid door heeft gekregen. Er zijn in deze periode veel soorten tulpen, narcissen, fritillaria’s en blauwe druifjes te bewonderen, vele honderden botanische soorten zorgen voor een lange bloeiperiode. Verder in het voorjaar zijn er vele soorten camelia’s en rododendrons in de City channel garden in bloei te bewonderen.
Allmost every piece of earth of the garden is taken by the large collection of plants that the couple has managed to collect over the years. In early spring the garden is famous for the large collection of bulb flowers. There are many types of bulb flowers to admire this period such as tulips, daffodils, fritillaria and Muscari. Hundreds of botanical species provide a long flowering period. Later in the spring, there are many types of Camellias and rhododendrons in the City channel garden in bloom.

Later in het jaar zijn er in de tuin grote collectie’s Salvia, Hemerocallis, Hosta, Iris en Papaver die voor de nodige kleur zorgen. Vele paden brengen u steeds in een ander gedeelte van de tuin die elk hun eigen ambiance hebben en zijn er waterpartijen te vinden inclusief een moerasgedeelte.
